Lüleburgaz Municipality Korean War Memorial Area and Visitor Center Architectural Project Competition
Lüleburgaz, 2018

Lüleburgaz is one of the most important historic cities and culture points which is between Asia and Europe continents. The city architecture, was shaped by Architect Sinan in 16th

century, keeps the memory of the city alive with today's cultural structures. Although Korea Museum which is built for the 241st infantry regiment, acted in Korea War in 1950-1953,

became one of the important cultural values,it is not included in the public space and social urban life because it is located in a military campus. In this context the new project area

correlate the social life and cultural life of the city. It is aimed to build a memorial area and a visitor center that makes a ritual in the frame of a monumental and museological

narrative, which takes the loneliness and silence of war and the separation of citizens from the background.

Approach, Placement, Orientation

It is recommended that access to the project area be provided via Pınarhisar Asfaltı, the main road surrounding the Lüleburgaz city center and the Istanbul motorway. In line with the

data of plant tissue worth preserving, it is aimed to evaluate the middle part of the trees as a building area and thus to protect the trees which are worth protecting. Due to the fact

that Tatarköy Road in the west of the project area does not have an effective role in the transportation to the area and the existing channel makes the relationship with the road

difficult, the visitor center structure to be placed in the field behind the west direction, thus cutting the negative environmental effects that the speed and noise of the vehicles passing

through. It is intended to be designed as a structural element that defines the 'courtyard' of the open space in the middle and returning to the entrance and the watch.
